United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI)

UNAI

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), a global initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations, was established by the UN Information Centre in 2009.

All member universities are requested to be involved in activities every year to support one of the ten principles in the fields of human rights, literacy, sustainability, and conflict resolution set by the UN and expected to address global challenges through education.

Osaka University's Approach

Osaka University has been a member of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) since October 2014. Through the UNAI framework, Osaka University strengthens its cooperation with the UN system and further promotes information exchange and cooperation with universities that provide UN-related education programs. Based on the 10 UNAI principles noted below, Osaka University will promote activities that contribute to UN principles and solve global challenges. Through such activities, Osaka University will further expand opportunities for cultivating students with international-mindedness and contribute to international society through sharing the university's research achievements with it.

The 10 UNAI Principles :

  1. A commitment to the principles inherent in the United Nations Charter as values that education seeks to promote and help fulfill;
  2. A commitment to human rights, among them freedom of inquiry, opinion, and speech;
  3. A commitment to educational opportunity for all people regardless of gender, race, religion or ethnicity;
  4. A commitment to the opportunity for every interested individual to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for the pursuit of higher education;
  5. A commitment to building capacity in higher education systems across the world;
  6. A commitment to encouraging global citizenship through education;
  7. A commitment to advancing peace and conflict resolution through education;
  8. A commitment to addressing issues of poverty through education;
  9. A commitment to promoting sustainability through education;
