Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT)

Some ten years ago, Japan and Malaysia began working on the idea for a jointly sponsored technological institute in Malaysia. In September 2011, the predecessor of the current Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology was given its current name under what is known as the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) Improvement Plan with strong support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
The aim of the improvement plan was and is to develop MJIIT as a new international engineering education base with characteristics similar to what one would find in Japanese engineering education. MJIIT aims to nurture the abilities of personnel in high technology, research, and good labor ethics in order to improve the quality of higher education in Malaysia and enhance its international competitiveness.
As of August 2012, Osaka University and twenty-three Japanese universities are involved in this project as MJIIT consortium members. Within the MJIIT consortium, there are sub committees in four areas: Mechanical Precision, Electronic Systems, Environment & Green Technology, and Management of Technology.
Osaka University is part of the subcommittees of Electronic Systems and Mechanical Precision and in Electronic Systems. OU has served as a vice managing school since 2010.
