Flow of the Program
1) Information session
Participants will get information about this program (including assignments), course schedule, local situation in Brunei, safety precautions, and career advancement. Participants will have a get-together with students from Brunei coming to Japan for Osaka University International Certificate Program (OUICP).
2) SDGs and Asia-Pacific Region I (one credit)
Class content will be tailored to participants’ interests, focusing on SDGs, particularly diversity in society and nature, so students can learn about regional issues in Southeast Asia and engage in experiences that are only possible in Brunei.
3) Career Advancement English Program I (one credit)
This program consists of an information session in Japan, activity using English in Brunei, English presentation skills training, and a final presentation. The portion of the program in Brunei is coordinated by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). This includes the study of culture, food, and changes in forestry and agriculture in Brunei, as well as field studies and laboratory studies at field stations and joint laboratories newly established between Osaka University and UBD. Participants will compile a report about what they learned in Brunei according to the theme that they researched in the course “SDGs and Asia-Pacific Region I.” Based on what they learned in a presentation skill development course, along with benefits from this English program in terms of career advancement, they will make a presentation in English.
4) Study Report Submission
In addition to their course assignments, participants will have to submit an 800-word study report in English within two weeks of their return to Japan. They will be informed of the topic, format of the report, and other instructions in the information session. A certificate of completion will be granted to those who have submitted this report.
