SDGs Field Study on UOsaka ASEAN Campus BAMBOO: Yunnan and Vietnam

Program Overview
Participants in this program will learn about the wisdom of ethnic minorities and Vietnamese living in northern Vietnam regarding how they sustainably utilize nature to secure food and health. Participants will also attempt to understand the relationship between issues in the region and the factors behind these issues from multi-tiered perspectives. Please peruse the application guidelines to get an understanding of the objective of this program before applying.

*Note: While participants will not visit Yunnan, China for this year's Field Study, the program offers travel opportunities to the region of Vietnam that borders Yunnan.
*This program will be held as an Osaka University International Certificate Program S (OUICP-S), a hybrid-type international study program.

Flow of the Program

1) Information Session
This information session includes an overview of the program (including an explanation regarding the final assignment), information on events, the state of affairs in Vietnam, safety information, and information about career advancement. This session will be held about 1 month before departure for Vietnam and will accommodate participants’ schedules. Before their departure, participants will also have a get-together with students from Vietnam studying in Japan for the Osaka University International Certificate Program (OUICP).
2) Subject: SDGs and Asia-Pacific Region I (one credit)
Participants will learn about SDGs by looking at case studies in Vietnam and the Philippines, particularly those regarding food and health in the Philippines. This course will be held together with participants in the OUICP-S Career Advance English Program in Philippines. The times and dates for this course will accommodate participants’ schedules. (Part of this program will be implemented online using the lesson support system CLE (Collaboration and Learning Environment).)

3) Subject: Field Study Abroad B (one credit)
In this subject, in collaboration with UOsaka ASEAN Campus partner universities in Vietnam, participants will understand and think of solutions for global and local issues in Vietnam through observation of the current situation and communications with local people.

4) Study Report Submission
In addition to their course assignments, participants will have to submit an 800-word study report in English within two weeks of their return to Japan. They will be informed of the topic, format of the report, and other instructions in the information session. A certificate of completion will be granted to those who have submitted this report.
