OUICP-S SDGs Field Study on ASEAN Campus BAMBOO: The Philippines
Program Overview
This program aims to develop knowledge and ability necessary for working abroad by learning about Southeast Asia and the Philippines in terms of agriculture, food, healthcare, entertainment, religion, and environment by attending lectures, fieldwork, excursions, presentations, and discussions conducted in English. Participants will be requested to find challenges in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the region and propose solutions using their expertise. *This program will be held as an Osaka University International Certificate Program S (OUICP-S), a hybrid-type international study program.
Program Content
We do not accept applications for AY2025.
Flow of the Program
1) Information Session
This information session includes an overview of the program (including an explanation regarding the final assignment), information on events, the state of affairs in the Philippines, and safety information. This session will be held about 1 month before departure for the Philippines and will accommodate participants’ schedules.
2) Subject: SDGs and Asia-Pacific Region A (one credit)
Participants will learn about the status of SDGs in Southeast Asia. In this subject, participants will learn about the status of the SDG they’re most interested in and explore measures to solve challenges in achieving the SDG. The times and dates for this course will accommodate participants’ schedules. (Part of this program will be implemented online using the lesson support system CLE (Collaboration and Learning Environment).)
3) Subject: Field Study Abroad A (one credit)
In this subject, based in the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Asia Center and the University of the Philippines Los Baños, participants will study the characteristics of Southeast Asia and the Philippines in terms of agriculture, food, healthcare, culture, religion, and the environment through lectures by experts, field trips, and excursions in the Philippines. During their field studies, participants will make a presentation in English on the topic they learned in the Subject: SDGs and Asia-Pacific Region I and discuss with faculty and students from the Philippines.
4) Study Report Submission
In addition to their course assignments, participants will have to submit an 800-word study report in English within two weeks of their return to Japan. They will be informed of the topic, format of the report, and other instructions in the information session. A certificate of completion will be granted to those who have submitted this report.
