OUICP-S Career Advance English Program in Brunei
Program Overview
In this program, participants join an English course at Brunei Darussalam University, with which UOsaka has an inter-university agreement, to improve their English language proficiency, especially their presentation skills in English. This program is also designed to help participants explore the challenges associated with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and acquire experience and knowledge useful for their future career. Applicants are asked to read application guidelines before applying. This program is scheduled to be held in Brunei, but it may be cancelled depending on the situation.

Flow of the Program
1) Information session
Participants will get information about this program (including assignments), course schedule, local situation in Brunei, safety precautions, and career advancement. Participants will have a get-together with students from Brunei coming to Japan for Osaka University International Certificate Program (OUICP).
2) SDGs and Asia-Pacific Region I (one credit)
Class content will be tailored to participants’ interests, focusing on SDGs, particularly diversity in society and nature, so students can learn about regional issues in Southeast Asia and engage in experiences that are only possible in Brunei. Participants in this program will take classes together with participants in the SDGs Field Study - Bamboo: Yunnan and Vietnam (OUICP-S). Classes will be arranged based on participants’ needs
3) Career Advancement English Program I (one credit)
This program consists of an information session in Japan, activity using English in Brunei, English presentation skills training, and a final presentation. The portion of the program in Brunei is coordinated by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). This includes the study of culture, food, and changes in forestry and agriculture in Brunei, as well as field studies and laboratory studies at field stations and joint laboratories newly established between The University of Osaka and UBD. Participants will compile a report about what they learned in Brunei according to the theme that they researched in the course “SDGs and Asia-Pacific Region I.” Based on what they learned in a presentation skill development course, along with benefits from this English program in terms of career advancement, they will make a presentation in English. ▶ Classes in Brunei: Monday, September 16 ~ Friday, September 27, 2024 Itinerary Departing: Leaving NRT on Sunday, September 15, 2024 (Royal Brunei Airlines) Returning: Arriving at NRT on Sunday, September 29, 2024 (Royal Brunei Airlines) ▶ Participants are expected to follow the program schedule. As a general rule, they are not allowed to leave the country to return to Japan once it has started. *Participants will meet and dismiss at NRT. Go to NRT by yourself. Participants are not allowed to take part in the middle of the program or traveling abroad during the program. *The program schedule, departing and returning dates, a stopover location, and airline are subject to change due to flight conditions.
4) Study Report Submission
In addition to their course assignments, participants will have to submit an 800-word study report in English within two weeks of their return to Japan. They will be informed of the topic, format of the report, and other instructions in the information session. A certificate of completion will be granted to those who have submitted this report.
