Message from OUICP Participants (Advanced Industrial Biotechnology)

OUICP(先端産業バイオテクノロジー)参加学生メッセージ
Pakawadee Mahaprom (from Mahidol University) participated in OUICP's program "Advanced Industrial Biotechnology" from 2023-2024.

Q1: What made you want to participate in OUICP?
I was interested in studying abroad, and while I was searching for a short-term study abroad program that provides scholarships, I found information about OUICP on the website for the Faculty of Science at Mahidol University. Study at UOsaka (2~3 months of lab work) and online technical courses appealed to me, so I consulted with my academic counselor and had a letter of recommendation written for my application.
Q2: What did you learn through OUICP?
At Arai Lab at the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, where I was studying at UOsaka, there was a greater variety of state-of-the-art equipment than at Mahidol University, so I was able to perform experiments that I was interested in.
In particular, techniques that I learned to isolate and extract specific substances, cells, and chemical compounds from other components in a pure form will be helpful in my research project.
Also, Professor Arai was very kind and led me to my research goals through his close guidance. The other members of the laboratory, including my seniors and other international students, were also very kind and friendly, providing me with advice on my research.
Q3. What are your plans for the future?
I’m considering entering a doctoral program at The University of Osaka. I want to decide to go to the program after thinking over my future.
The career consultation session for OUICP students that I attended while studying at UOsaka gave me a chance to consider going to the doctoral program.
Q4. Do you have any advice for students interested in studying at OU?
At the laboratories at Osaka University, you can obtain precious data using the latest experimental equipment.
It is very fun to experience Japanese culture during the 2-month study period at OU, but you may feel inconvenienced if you can’t speak any Japanese.
That said, you’ll have a chance to build a network with your professor and the Japanese in your lab, and international students, so you’ll be able to have a fulfilling time through their support.
