Message from a former OUICP Student
Nurabiyiah Binti Mohamad (from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)) She participated in OUICP’s program “Introduction to Computational Materials Design” in 2022-23. Following the completion of the program, she enrolled in the Graduate School of Engineering under the Double Degree Program (DDP).
Q1: What made you want to participate in OUICP?
I learned about the program from my advisor at USM. It seemed like it would help me achieve my research goal.
Q2: What did you learn through OUICP?
I learned about Japan’s unique traditions and rich culture while studying in Japan and I was able to improve my language ability through conversations with my lab mates. Living in a society different from my own expanded my global perspective.
Q3: Why did you participate in a DDP after finishing OUICP?
During my time in OUICP, Professor Morikawa, my faculty advisor, introduced me to the DDP at the Graduate School of Engineering and encouraged me to apply if I was interested. I actually studied in the research lab and got a better picture of what my life as a researcher would be like after entering OU; that was also the reason why I decided to apply. I feel that DDP is a great chance for us to explore our future career possibilities.
Q4: What is your laboratory like?
The laboratory is equipped with the latest technology and specialized staff are available, so it is possible to effectively carry out optimal research and simulations. Faculty advisors provide detailed guidance on theoretical research and opportunities to carry out simulations to students. The faculty members are all very kind and the students are welcoming and friendly.
Q5. Do you have any advice for students interested in studying at OU?
Osaka University will give you chances to pursue your academic endeavors, have cultural experiences, and study in a lively environment. Opportunities to have contact with the latest research and learn about the beauty of Osaka’s culture are a precious experience that you can never learn from books. Research specialists and world-class research facilities are in place and are ready to accept diversity in the university setting. Learning at Osaka University is a great opportunity to grow and discover yourself. Students and researchers, let’s experience the unlimited possibilities that are waiting for your with doors swung wide open at OU.
