Purpose, Outline of Duties, and the Relationship with National Policies
[Purpose]
National University Corporation, the University of Osaka establishes and operates the University of Osaka with the mission of conducting education and research that responds to public expectations and contributes to the advancement and balanced development of higher education and academic research in Japan.
[Outline of duties]
National University Corporation, the University of Osaka (hereinafter “the Corporation”) is charged with the following duties:
(National University Corporation Act, Article 22, Paragraph 1)
-To establish a national university and manage it.
-To provide students with support such as counsel on studying, selecting a career, or advice on mental and physical health.
-To conduct research commissioned by a party other than the Corporation, or conduct it together with the party, or to conduct education and research activities in cooperation with parties other than the Corporation.
-To establish open lectures in order to provide people other than students with opportunities to study.
-To share the results of our research with the public and promote the usage of such.
-To make investments in persons or entities that, under contract from the Corporation, undertake projects for the management of facilities, equipment, or intellectual infrastructure related to education and research owned by the Corporation, and for the promotion of the use of such facilities, equipment, or intellectual infrastructure by other universities, research institutions, and other users.
“Intellectual infrastructure” shall mean the intellectual infrastructure prescribed in Article 24-4 of the Law on the Revitalization of Science, Technology and Innovation Creation (Act No. 63 of 2008).
-To make investments in persons or entities that carry out projects prescribed by Cabinet Order which utilize the results of research conducted at the Corporation, excluding projects prescribed in Article 34-2, Paragraph 1 of the National University Corporation Act (Act No. 112 of 2003).
-To make investments (excluding those falling under the following item) in persons or entities that carry out projects prescribed by Cabinet Order for the purpose of promoting the utilization of the results of technological research conducted at the Corporation.
-To make investments and provide human and technical support in accordance with Article 21 of the Act on Strengthening Industrial Competitiveness (Act No. 98 of 2013).
-To perform duties associated with the above measures.
