Reconstruction and recovery following the Great East Japan Earthquake

Osaka University extends its heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11 and its aftermath.

We also would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to the many persons who have offered support for reconstruction of the disaster-stricken areas.

Osaka University-related persons including faculty, staff, current students and graduates have been involved in assistance activities. Such activities include sending disaster medical teams from Osaka University Hospital and relief supplies to disaster-stricken universities and areas, conducting field investigations and contamination measurements by a nuclear and radiation research team, sharing information about the disaster with the world, dispatching faculty, staff and student volunteers, and collecting money for disaster victims.

Five months have passed since the disaster took place, but many persons still suffer in difficult circumstances and many obstacles remain for full recovery of the Tohoku area.

Osaka University is committed to continuing to offer support as a mission of our university.
