Procedures for applying for a delay in the repayment of loans from the Japan Student Service Organization

The Japan Student Service Organization (JASSO) has set up a system for granting recipients a delay in the repayment of their loans.

Students whose family suffered losses in the economic fallout from the Great East Japan Earthquake and those who will remain at school after the termination of a loan can apply for a delay in the repayment.

1. Delayed repayment due to economic reasons

Students who have difficulty making repayment due to losses suffered in the economic fallout from disaster or unemployment can apply for a delay in repayment by submitting the specified JASSO form and a certificate. For more information and to download the form, please go here .

2. Delayed repayment for students continuing with their studies

Individuals who are continuing with their studies or advancing to graduate school after the termination of a loan can apply for a delay in repaying their loans by submitting a notification of enrollment; otherwise, repayment of the loan would start while they are in school. Individuals who wish to delay such repayments must submit a notification of enrollment to the Student Center.
