Osaka University will hold its 2023 Entrance Ceremony on April 4 with COVID-19 measures in place.

The university may alter the format of the ceremony depending on the pandemic’s status and administrative guidance. Any changes made to the entrance ceremony will be posted on this webpage, so please check it regularly for updated information.

1. Dates and Times

Tuesday, April 4, 2023 - 1:30~2:30 p.m.

Order of Ceremony

  • Opening
  • Undergraduate student oath
  • Graduate student oath
  • Address from the President
  • Introductions to executive directors and department heads
  • Performance by Osaka University Symphony Orchestra
  • Performance by Osaka University Male Chorus Club and Osaka University Mixed Chorus Club
  • Performance by Osaka University Cheerleading Team
  • Closing

*After a 20-minute intermission following the entrance ceremony, an orientation for new undergraduate students will be held. Accompanying individuals may stay in the ceremony venue. This orientation is scheduled to end at 3:50 p.m.

2. Venue

Seating areas are divided as follows:

  • New undergraduate students – 1F Arena: students enter from the East Entrance
  • New graduate students – Internal side, second tier stand: students enter from the North and South Entrances
  • Guests – External side, second tier stand: guests enter from the North and South Entrances

*Up to 2 guests may accompany each new student.

*Both new students and their accompanying guests must register in advance.

*For those who cannot make it to the venue, a livestream of the ceremony will be available on YouTube.

The URL for this YouTube livestream is included in the document “Events Scheduled after Enrollment in April 2023 (令和5年度入学当初の行事について) in the “Documents Related to Entering Osaka University (大阪大学入学関係資料),” which were sent to new students. This YouTube livestream URL is also described in the leaflet to be distributed on the day of the entrance ceremony.

Photography tips

Signs for the entrance ceremony will be placed at the North and South Entrances at the following times: 11:00 a.m.~12:30 p.m. / 1:30 p.m.~5:00 p.m.

You can purchase official Osaka University merchandise at an Osaka University COOP booth set up near the North Entrance during the following times: 11:00 a.m.~12:30 p.m. / 1:30 p.m.~5:00 p.m.

*There is no parking available at the venue. Use public transportation to get to the venue.
Dropping others off in the vicinity of the venue cause traffic jams. Refrain from coming by car.

*Attendees in wheelchairs or those who have injuries that cause difficulties in coming to Osaka-Jo Hall and wish to use the parking lot on the south side of the Hall should call the phone number at the bottom of this page by Monday, March 27, 2023. (All others are not allowed to park at the venue.)

*A sign language interpreter will be standing in front of the venue, so please let reception know if you require assistance in sign language.

*To prevent the venue’s surroundings from becoming crowded, refrain from meeting up with your family and friends and try to enter and exit the venue as promptly as possible.


Requests to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

- To prevent the spread of COVID-19, we ask you to use preventive measures: practice proper cough etiquette, use hand sanitizer, and refrain from speaking in loud voices at the venue.

*Note that these requests are based on a notice from MEXT on March 17, 2023 entitled "令和5年4月1日以降の大学等におけるマスク着用の考え方の見直しと学修者本位の授業の実施等について(周知) (Regarding reexamination of views on mask wearing and execution of student-centered classes at universities from April 1, 2023)". (file in Japanese)

- Individuals who have a temperature above 37.5℃ and those who have a temperature below 37.5℃ but who are not feeling well (fatigue, cough, sore throat, etc.) should refrain from coming to the venue.
Temperature checks will also be conducted at the entrance of the venue.

- Only new students and their guests (up to 2 per student) who have registered in advance will be admitted to the venue.

- To prevent the venue’s surroundings (anywhere between the venue and the nearest train station) from becoming crowded, refrain from meeting up with your family and friends and try to enter and exit the venue as promptly as possible.

- Photography is permitted only while seated.

- Any changes made to the entrance ceremony due to COVID-19 will be posted to the top of this webpage, so please make sure to check this page prior to the ceremony.
