Host: Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University

With support from: Osaka University Co-Creation Bureau

The Graduate School of Engineering at Osaka University has hosted the Osaka University Joint Research Chairs Symposium since 2009 in order to investigate the feasibility of co-creation with society by sharing information about endeavors and effects of “Industry on Campus.” “Industry on Campus” constitutes the foundation for promoting Osaka University’s industry-university collaboration system, Joint Research Chairs.

Under the theme of “Towards Solving Social Issues,” this 15th symposium will discuss the role of industry-university collaboration in terms of carbon neutrality (an urgent issue) and human resource development. Although the scope of these two topics may differ, both of them are critical issues for Japan.

This year marks milestone anniversaries for the university: the establishment of the Joint Research Chair System (15th anniversary) and the Research Alliance Laboratories System (10th anniversary). This symposium will be a great opportunity to look back on endeavors in Joint Research Chairs and Research Alliance Laboratories and discuss the future direction and the role of university-industry collaboration in solving these social issues during an ever-shifting economic situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
