Self-inspection and Assessment (#6)

The University of Osaka performed its sixth self-inspection and assessment for AY2024 according to its Policies for Internal Quality Assurance in Education and Guidelines for Educational Assessment for Internal Quality Assurance in Education.

By investigating if education was conducted based on education policies as well as if students accomplished their academic goals, the university assessed the implementation status of the degree programs and education at the undergraduate and graduate schools, and discussed how to respond to challenges that emerged during the inspection.

The self-inspection and assessment by undergraduate and graduate schools showed positive results due to their excellent educational efforts, such as the improvement of academic major systems and student support systems.

For example, the combination of face-to-face and online classes is becoming the norm. Regarding student support for learning and educational activities, the university confirmed distinctive initiatives in faculties and graduate schools, such as student award systems, multiple mentor systems, increased support staff, improved learning environments, and thorough course guidance. In addition, it is confirmed that long-term course systems and internships in collaboration with corporations are functioning effectively, and that interdisciplinary research is being promoted.

On the other hand, several issues were also raised, including the university's struggles to improve response rates to various student surveys, the low number of exchange students accepted at the undergraduate level, and how to deal with the use of generative AI in dissertations. The approaches taken by these schools as well as their results and issues were shared with undergraduate and graduate schools at the Curriculum Committee meeting held in October 2025.
