Self-inspection and Assessment (#5)
Osaka University performed its fifth self-inspection and assessment for AY2023 according to its Policies for Internal Quality Assurance in Education and Guidelines for Educational Assessment for Internal Quality Assurance in Education.
By investigating if education was conducted based on education policies as well as if students accomplished their academic goals, the university assessed the implementation status of the degree programs and education at the undergraduate and graduate schools, and discussed how to respond to challenges that emerged during the inspection.
The self-inspection and assessment by undergraduate and graduate schools showed positive results due to their excellent educational efforts, such as the improvement of academic major systems and student support systems.
However, while people’s mobility in the AY2023 was even more than before the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the world and more international students studied at OU, the numbers of OU students studying and attending conferences abroad dropped due to the weak yen combined with soaring travel prices.
In addition, despite increased financial support from the government and the university for graduate students, the number of students advancing to master’s and doctoral programs decreased in some schools. Thus, approaches taken by these schools as well as their results and issues were shared with undergraduate and graduate schools at the Curriculum Committee meeting held in October 2024.
