Policy for Faculty Development

1. Definition and Guidelines

Faculty Development (FD) is systematic efforts to enhance the qualities and abilities of faculty members in order to improve the quality of education, research, industry-university collaboration, and university management at OU. The university considers FD as the foundation of quality assurance of activities at the university as an institute of higher education.

2.Methods

FD methods include training, research, individual consulting, on the job training (OJT), and more.

3. FD programs are implemented as follows:

University-wide FD programs

In accordance with the above guidelines, university-wide FD programs are implemented for all faculty members. The university-wide organization includes organizations across the university such as the FD Committee.

Departmental FD programs

In accordance with the above guidelines, department-wide FD programs are implemented for faculty members of each department. The department includes undergraduate schools, graduate schools, centers, research institutes, institutions, classes, programs, and courses.

4. Evaluation and Improvement  

FD programs are evaluated via questionnaire surveys, national university corporation evaluation, self-inspection/self-evaluation and accreditation, department assessment, and evaluation of school achievements and the results are used to improve the quality and ability of faculty members.
