Information on the University of Osaka Emergency Scholarship for Students Affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake
We extend our sympathies to all those who have been affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake.
The University of Osaka will award an emergency scholarship to undergraduate and graduate students whose primary financial supporter was affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake. The scholarship is intended to support students so that financial difficulties caused by the disaster do not prevent them from continuing their studies.
Eligibility
Applicants who fall under any of the following categories are eligible to apply:
- Their primary financial supporter died or went missing due to the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake.
- Their primary financial supporter became unemployed because the organization or company where they worked was affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake.
- The home where their primary financial supporter resides was damaged by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake and was officially assessed as completely destroyed, majorly partially destroyed, moderately partially destroyed, or partially destroyed.
Scholarship Amount
Recipients will receive a lump-sum payment of 260,000 yen. This scholarship is non-repayable.
Application Period and Submission Method
Application Period: September 15, 2026 (Tuesday) to October 16, 2026 (Friday)
Submission Method: Please submit the application in person or by mail to the Scholarship Desk, Suita Student Center.

● If you wish to apply, please complete the required documents as outlined in the application guidelines and submit them either in person or by post to the Scholarship Desk of the Suita Student Center.
Please be aware that the Suita Student Center will be closed on September 24 (Thursday) and 25 (Friday), and applications cannot be accepted on those dates.
