Certificate of Commuter Status
When purchasing a student commuter pass for the purpose of taking regular courses, you are requested to present a certificate of commuter status.
The certificate of commuter status issued for students who commute using public transportation is available at the educational affairs division at their school. Peruse the notes described on the back of the certificate, enter your residential address and the route you use to get to the university (one specific route between your home and your campus) and get this information confirmed by the educational affairs division of your school. If there is a change in your personal information or written errors in entries, please notify the division.
The certificate of commuter status is updated and distributed every academic year. The educational affairs division of your school will inform you when it will be available through KOAN or bulletin board around March.
To purchase a student commuter pass, you must present both your Certificate of Commuter Status (commuter pass issuance receipt) and your Student ID Card. In addition, you must always carry your Student ID Card when using the commuter pass.
(Please note that some public transportation providers may not accept digital student IDs. For information on transportation operators that support digital student IDs, please refer to the list (PDF) here.
Please refrain from using the certificate of commuter status to buy a student commuter pass for purposes other than commuting to and from school, such as for taking part in club activities or working at a part-time job. You will be imposed a surcharge and, in the worst case, selling of student commuter passes to Osaka University students may be restricted.
