Award Ceremony for the 2019-20 Sumitomo Chemical Scholarship Program for Global Leadership Development (Osaka University Future Funds Globalization Support Project)

On Tuesday, June 18, 2019, the award ceremony for the Sumitomo Chemical Scholarship Program for Global Leadership Development (Osaka University Future Funds Globalization Support Project) was held at Hotel Granvia Osaka.

Utilizing funds from Sumitomo Chemical Company, Ltd., this scholarship program was designed to support motivated students who will contribute to the creation of new projects and innovation at Japanese corporations while promoting the development of global human resources. In its second year, 2 individuals were selected to receive this scholarship:

• SHINOHARA Kouichi (1st year, Doctoral Program, Graduate School of Engineering Science)
• KASHIWAGI Yu (2nd year, Doctoral Program, Graduate School of Science)

Present at the award ceremony from Sumimoto Chemical were NISHIMOTO Ray (Representative Director & Senior Managing Executive Officer), AKAHORI Kingo (Managing Executive Officer), SHIMIZU Masao, (Executive Office, Human Resources Department), and MATSUOKA Yoshiki (Senior Manager, Human Resources Department), while YOSHIKAWA Hideki (Executive Vice President) and NAGAMINE Takashi (Director, Liaison Office for Osaka University Funds) were in attendance from Osaka University.

At the ceremony, after a greeting from Sumitomo Chemical Representative Director Nishimoto, both students received their scholar certificates. Following this, Executive Vice President Yoshikawa delivered a congratulatory speech, and each recipient spoke about their plans and hopes for their study abroad experience. Recipients of last year’s scholarship also made presentations on their study abroad experiences.

A social gathering was held following the award ceremony, with the students and related individuals enjoying conversation in a pleasant atmosphere.

The Sumitomo Chemical Scholarship Program for Global Leadership Development aims to support students who study at world-class universities around the globe in order to acquire international-mindedness and adaptability to foreign cultures so that they will be able to take the initiative in creating and driving projects to create innovation in global activities of Japanese companies.
