On Friday, October 30, PSCJ 2026 (the 6th Philippine Studies Conference in Japan) will host a pre-conference event at Osaka University’s Minoh Campus, entitled “Is It Worth Doing a PhD in Japan? — Rethinking the Possibilities of Doing Philippine Studies in Japan.”
Starting with the question, “What does it mean to pursue a PhD in Japan?”, the event will bring together researchers who have pursued graduate studies in Japan and those currently working toward their PhDs to share their experiences of studying abroad, conducting research, and building their academic and professional careers. The discussion will then explore the possibilities of doing Philippine Studies in Japan from a range of disciplinary perspectives, including history and cultural studies, anthropology, international relations, and agricultural economics, as well as the future of academic exchange between Japan and the Philippines.
The event is open to everyone interested in Philippine Studies, graduate study in Japan, or academic and research careers. Participation is free of charge. We warmly welcome anyone interested in joining us!
Advance registration is required.
