Crowdfunding project for mass production of face shields for medical professionals

[April 20, 2020] With the READYFOR website, Osaka University has started a crowdfunding project to raise 5 million yen for mass-producing a frame to fit a face shield constructed of a clear plastic file tightly around the sides of the head. Using money from the crowdfunding campaign, the university plans to start the mass production of the frames, which will serve as a part of personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical staff, at factories in Higashiosaka and Kobe cities in early May.

Cooperation with Osaka Prefecture & Osaka City: OU signs a collaborative R&D agreement for COVID-19 drugs and vaccines

[April 14, 2020] Osaka University signed a collaborative research and development (R&D) agreement for COVID-19 drugs and vaccines with University Public Corporation Osaka, Osaka Prefectural Hospital Organization, Osaka City Hospital Organization, Osaka Prefecture, and Osaka City. Under this agreement, the university will promote R&D of COVID-19 drugs and vaccines, contributing to the maintenance and improvement of health and quality of life of individuals in the region.

BIKEN Foundation, RIMD, and NIBIOHN: Joint development of drugs and inspection techniques for COVID-19

[March 18, 2020] Osaka University’s Research Institute for Microbial Diseases (RIMD), in cooperation with the BIKEN Foundation and the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition (NIBIOHN), began developing drugs and inspection techniques for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Using their research resources and know-how, these three institutes will strive to achieve early realization of clinical trials toward the development and practical use of COVID-19 vaccines. They will also develop their alliance as a platform for research and development to promote the prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases.
