President NISHIO Shojiro named Person of Cultural Merit

For his significant achievements in the field of Information Science, President NISHIO Shojiro has been selected as a Person of Cultural Merit.

Sensing the rapid development of information systems and network environments, President NISHIO, without being caught up in established theories, carried out creative research and development based on actual systems, greatly contributing to the construction of information systems in society, which led to his selection.

I've always given all of my strength to contribute whatever I could to the development of not only the field of information science, but also society as a whole.
I am both very surprised and truly honored to hear that I was selected as a Person of Cultural Merit.
I want to give my deepest thanks to my former teachers, my seniors, the researchers with whom I performed my research, and everyone with whom I have worked over the years. As President of Osaka University, I will continue to devote my heart, mind, and strength to the advancement of academia in Japan through the development of outstanding human resources and the promotion of world-leading research while respecting the cultural diversity of all individuals at Osaka University.
