A joint research project conducted by Osaka University, National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology, RIKEN, J-PARC Center, and Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd., received the Science Council of Japan President’s Award of the 2 nd Japan Open Innovation Prizes.

They performed inter-organizational collaborative research under the theme of “creating a smart, long-lived society through pioneering quantum beam applications," winning the prize for their efforts made through cooperation among over 10 universities and institutes and over 20 corporations.

Endeavors in developing innovative human resources in the Management of Industry and Technology Department of Osaka University’s Graduate School of Engineering were also selected to receive the Selection Committee Special Award.

The department was highly praised for its endeavors based on its own unique practical education methods in developing innovative human resources and for its performances in the last 15 years. They achieved this through cooperation between the industrial circle, Osaka University’s Graduate School of Economics, and the Graduate School of Management at Globis University.

Osaka University will continue to carry out even stronger industry-university co-creation in order to greatly contribute to the promotion of open innovation in Japan.
