MEXT’s Super-Smart Society Support Project “Initiative for Life Design Innovation (iLDi)” International Symposium held

On Friday, November 1, 2019, the MEXT's Super-Smart Society (Society 5.0) Support Project “Initiative for Life Design Innovation (iLDi)" International Symposium was held at Osaka International Convention Center (Grand Cube Osaka). iLDi is the only project selected as the MEXT's 2018-19 Super-Smart Society Support Project.

Osaka University held this international symposium in order to further promote collaboration with private corporations and local governments and gather information on the latest worldwide trends and cutting-edge activity by widely publicizing and garnering understanding of the activity of iLDi.

A total of 209 individuals were in attendance from universities, research institutes, local governments in Osaka Prefecture, and private corporations involved in the project.

At the symposium, after greetings from President NISHIO Shojiro (iLDi Director) and RIKEN Executive Director KOTERA Hidetoshi (iLDi Vice Director), HASHIZUME Jun (Counsellor for Information), Research Promotion Bureau, MEXT) also greeted attendees.

In the following keynote lectures by Professor Insup Lee of the University of Pennsylvania and Professor Rosemary Luckin of the University of London spoke about the latest research results from around the world.

Next, Professor YAGI Yasushi of the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (iLDi Director-General) gave an introduction to iLDi, which was followed by research project presentations from 6 initiative projects and 14 grand challenge research projects. There were also poster presentations held for each project, with lively exchange of opinions taking place between attendees.

Finally, Executive Vice President ONOYE Takao (iLDi Vice Director) ended the symposium with a closing greeting. This symposium served as a valuable venue for considering the future society envisioned in Society 5.0 initiative, giving further momentum to the promotion of activity at iLDi.
