Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology SHIBAYAMA Masahiko visits Osaka University

On Tuesday, August 6, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology SHIBAYAMA Masahiko and his entourage visited Osaka University.

Their visit began with a tour of the Institute for Datability Science, where President NISHIO Shojiro and Professor HARUMOTO Kaname (Institute for Datability Science) gave an explanation on the current situation of the university’s collaboration with the industry, its unique approach to university-industry co-creation, and the Institute for Datability Science and other efforts by the university to promote the realization of Society 5.0, a super-smart society.

Following this, they toured the Center for Information and Neural Networks,  receiving an explanation from Director YANAGIDA Toshio on the cutting-edge research performed at the Center.

After that, the group took a tour of the Co-Creative Innovation Building, getting briefed on the history of Osaka University and its efforts to promote diversity at the university from President Nishio and Executive Vice President KUDOH Mayumi. Minister Shibayama listened intently to the explanations at each facility, asking questions regarding the content of research performed at the facilities.

After the tour, he exchanged opinions with President Nishio and OU faculty and staff members about the university’s efforts as a Designated National University. The guided tour was pleasant from start to finish, and gave the participants a glimpse of OU’s unique activity.
