Welcome to Osaka University! 2019-2020 Spring Entrance Ceremony held

On Tuesday, April 2, the 2019-2020 Osaka University Spring Entrance Ceremony was held at Osaka-Jo Hall, with 6,426 individuals (3,426 undergraduate students and 3,000 graduate students) entering Osaka University.

Some 10,000 individuals attended the ceremony, including students and their families.

At 13:20, after a short welcome movie for new students, President Nishio, executive directors, and deans came to the stage accompanied by a rendition of "Pomp and Circumstance" performed by the Osaka University Symphony Orchestra, and the ceremony officially began at 13:30.

At the ceremony, an oath was taken by student representatives NISHIHARA Kaito (School of Science) and KOMATSU Keiko (Graduate School of Letters), after which President Nishio delivered an address to the new students. In his address, President Nishio encouraged students, saying, "Osaka University's campuses are brimming with possibility, so I want you all to try all kinds of new things. I hope that the time you spend at Osaka University will serve as a compass for planning the rest of your lives." The brand new members of Osaka University, while a bit nervous, listened intently to the President's emboldening message.

After this, an introduction of the executive directors and deans took place, followed by performances by the Osaka University Mixed Chorus, Osaka University Male Chorus, and Osaka University Symphony Orchestra, bringing the ceremony to a close at 14:15.
