New Year's Greeting from President Nishio

On Monday, January 7, 2019, President NISHIO Shojiro held his New Year's Greeting for Osaka University faculty and staff at Osaka University Hall on the Toyonaka Campus, outlining goals and key challenges for 2019.

Some 600 faculty and staff members were in attendance for President Nishio’s greeting, in which he said, “2019 is a year in which Osaka University will venture into a new age. This year will see OU Vision 2021 transition from its ‘ripening stage’ to its ‘completion stage.’ It is also a critical year for the university to strengthen its foundation to realize its ideas stated in Designated National University Corporation proposal. Now more than ever, we must come together and work toward our goals in order to produce sound results at the university.”

President Nishio went on to speak about the university’s goals and his intention to address two key challenges for 2019, saying, “Osaka University’s vision is to become a world-class innovative university that contributes to social change. Put simply, the university strives to be one that contributes to innovation for the good of humanity and the sustained growth of our society. For this purpose, the university will focus on two challenges, (1) presentation and implementation of its specific endeavors for co-creation with society, and (2) enhancement of the quality of research at OU, the foundation for co-creation.
