Children get hands-on experience with "Self-Healing Materials (Even When Cut!)"

Taking part in the PR Exhibit Project at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's (MEXT) Joho Hiroba (Information Plaza), from July 2 ~ August 10, 2018, Osaka University set up an exhibit at the 2F Entrance of MEXT that introduced "Self-Healing Materials (Even When Cut!)," research results by Specially Appointed Professor Akira HARADA (Graduate School of Science).

August 1 and 2 were Kasumigaseki Tour Days for Kids ( Kodomo Kasumigaseki Kengaku Day), which saw a large number of children visit MEXT. The children learned about the principles and mechanisms of these self-healing materials, which utilize nano-sized block-like structures, through panels and models, while also cutting and reattaching the materials themselves. In addition, on August 1, Professor Harada came to personally explain the structure of self-healing materials and express the enjoyment of science to the children.
