Superstar Students! Award Ceremony for the 19th Presidential Awards for Extracurricular Activities

The award ceremony for the 19th Presidential Awards for Extracurricular Activities was held on Thursday, July 24, 2018. Presidential Awards for Extracurricular Activities have been awarded to recognize outstanding extracurricular activities and invigorate and improve student extracurricular activity participation since their inception in 2000.

Thirty-one nominations were received for these awards, including 14 from sports-oriented clubs, 11 from culture-oriented clubs, and 6 from other groups and individuals. The awardees were selected as follows.

Outstanding Achievement Award

A cappella group

Winners of the largest a cappella event in Japan, "Japan A cappella Movement (JAM)" and best amateur a cappella group in the country

Lacrosse Club

Winners of the Kansai Student Lacrosse League and runners-up at the National Student Championship Tournament

Special Recognition Award

OKADA Daisuke (4th year, School of Engineering)

MVP of Men's Division 1 in the 28th Kansai Student Lacrosse League

Baseball Club

First-ever club appearance at the Kiyose Cup National University Tournament

Table Tennis Club/Women's Table Tennis Club

Winners 3 years in a row (2015, 2016, 2017) at the Seven Universities Meet in both the men's team and women's team events

Rowing Club

3rd place in men's coxed pair at the 95th National Championship

Environmental Club GECS

Winners of the Minister of the Environment Award at the National Youth Environmental Activity Presentation Conference

SAKUMA Hiroshi (4th year, School of Engineering Science)

2nd place overall at the 3rd Study Abroad Results Presentation Conference for Tobitate! Study Abroad JAPAN

ITO Shun (2nd year, Doctoral Program, Graduate School of Human Sciences)

Recipient of the Academic Future Award in the Forum for Leading Graduate Schools for his outstanding activity
