Statement of Mutual Agreement Signed on Relocation of Osaka University's Minoh Campus

In June of 2015, in order to develop education and research and improve the learning environment at Osaka University, as well as realize active urban development of Minoh City, Osaka University and Minoh City exchanged memorandums regarding moving OU's Minoh Campus from its current location in the Aomatani area of Minoh City to the Semba-higashi area of the same city, where a new station on the planned extension of the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Line (tentatively named Minoh-Semba station) is set to begin operations.

Since then, after a number of conferences held between Osaka University and Minoh City about the proposed move, a statement of mutual agreement was signed on Tuesday, April 12, 2016.

Content of the Official Statement of Mutual Agreement

(1) Details and Basic Approach
In June of 2015, in order to develop education and research and improve the learning environment at Osaka University, as well as realize active urban development of Minoh City, Osaka University and Minoh City exchanged memorandums regarding moving OU's Minoh Campus from its current location in the Aomatani area of Minoh City to the Semba-higashi area of the same city, where a new station on the planned extension of the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Line (tentatively named Minoh-Semba station) is set to begin operations.

Since then, after a number of conferences held between Osaka University and Minoh City about the proposed move, a statement of mutual agreement was signed on Tuesday, April 12, 2016.
Moving forward, Osaka University and Minoh City will mutually coordinate and cooperate in the move of the Minoh Campus as well as the effective use of the eventual vacancy of the current Minoh Campus.

In addition, in order to cultivate and produce human resources that will prove useful both to society and in the sustainable development of the region, Osaka University will contribute such knowledge and human resources to efforts for regional vitalization such as culture, education, research, and international exchange, while Minoh City will utilize the knowledge and human resources of Osaka University while providing an environment for these human resources to thrive.

(2) Relocation of the Minoh Campus
Osaka University plans to open the new Minoh Campus in the spring of 2021, complete with university buildings and student dormitories, in the Semba-higashi area.

(3) Cultural Exchange Facility, Library
Accompanying this relocation of the Minoh Campus, Minoh City will establish a public cultural exchange facility and library in the Semba-higashi area. The library will contain 110,000 books from the city's own collection, and 600,000 books from Osaka University.
Osaka University will, at no charge, undertake operations and management of the cultural exchange facility and library into the future to provide this service to students and citizens alike.

(4) Additional Points
• We will discuss the details of the content of each facility moving forward.
• Osaka University and Minoh City will continue to hold conferences moving forward to discuss the introduction of area management to be advanced through coordination between Osaka University and Minoh City.
