OSAKA University Venture Capital Co., Ltd. starts investment business from August

On June 4, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry approved a business plan for the use of specific research results of OSAKA University Venture Capital Co., Ltd. (OUVC). OUVC is an unlimited liability partner of OUVC Fund 1 Limited Partnership for Investment (OUVC Fund 1). On June 30, MEXT approved a 10 billion yen injection of capital from Osaka University to OUVC Fund 1. This is the first national university-funded project. OU Fund 1 will secure as much contribution as possible from private companies and start investment business from August.

Investment activities by OUVC Fund 1

Investment will be made in the following ventures in the fields of life innovation, green innovation, and platform technology. (The illustration below shows an investment scheme.)

1. Start-up and early-stage venture by utilizing research results at Osaka University

While getting hands-on support* from fund consulting companies, OUVC will make a milestone investment** on several occasions over a long period so that it can receive co-investment from private venture capital at an early stage.

2. Joint venture established from joint research between Osaka University and private companies

OUVC will make a full use of the university's power of research and development and companies' power of development, management, and sale.

3. Existing Osaka University venture

OUVC will aggressively support existing OU ventures if investment destinations and other investors request or agree.

OUVC will facilitate the practical use of the University's research results through the improvement of systems for strengthening investment professionals for promoting investment activities and by reinforcing cooperation with related departments at Osaka University and private companies.
