Opening ceremony for the UC/UCEAP Office held

On Wednesday, December 3, University of California's second office in Japan, the University of California / University of California Education Abroad Program , Osaka Office , was set up on the 7th floor of the Interdisciplinary Research Building on the Toyonaka campus and its opening ceremony was held. The University of California has a university-to-university agreement with Osaka University.

The opening ceremony started with greeting from Jean-Xavier Guinard , Executive Director, UCEAP. Following that, greetings were extended from Toshio HIRANO (President), Hideto MATSUMOTO (Head, Office for International Planning, Higher Education Policy Planning Division, Higher Education Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), and Keith Lommel (Director, Kansai American Center, Consulate General of the United States Osaka, Japan). Their greetings were followed by ribbon-cutting, a tour of the facilities, and a reception.
The reception was successfully held with some 60 people including UC/UCEAP-related people in attendance. In the reception, Yasuyuki OKAMURA (Executive Vice President) greeted, expressed his wish that "this office will make the relationship between Osaka University and University of California closer and promote exchange among students and researchers and joint research in the 21 century."  It is expected that Osaka University will have a closer and more active relationship with University of California, one of the world-class education and research institutes.
Prior to the opening ceremony, Executive Director Guinard made a courtesy visit to President Toshio HIRANO . Executive Vice Presidents Yasuyuki OKAMURA and Kiyoshi HIGASHIJIMA also attended this visit. Executive Director Guinard seemed to be impressed with President Hirano's idea of "World Tekijuku." They talked about student exchange between the two universities.
On Thursday, December 4, Executive Director Guinard visited laboratories accepting students from UC, the laboratories of: Hiroyuki MIZUGUCHI , Professor, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, SHIMODA Yoshiyuki , Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, and TANAKA Toshihiro , Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, and talked with the students from UC.
