3rd Winner of the title "Osaka University Distinguished Professor" announced for current academic year
Osaka University aims to become one of the world's top 10
research universities by our 100th anniversary in 2031. In order to promote academic initiatives aimed
at making Osaka University an internationally competitive center of
education and research, the university created the official title
"Osaka University Distinguished Professor" in April 2013 and recognized
individuals who played leading roles coupled with outstanding achievement.
The university granted the title to 10 individuals
in the
2013~14 academic year
on July 1, 2013 and
2 individuals
were announced at the beginning of the
2014~15 year
on April 1, 2014.
The
selection committee, which included outside members, examined the
achievements of individuals recommended by heads of educational research
and education organizations and by OU vice presidents. Today the committee has announced its decision to grant the title to
YOSHIMORI Tamotsu
, Professor, Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences on July 1, 2014, bring the number of recipients to 3 for the current academic year.
In addition to the title of Osaka University Distinguished
Professor, a Distinguished Professor Allowance is granted to each
recipient in order to support their activities. The title and allowance
are valid for a maximum of 3 years.

Osaka University Distinguished Professor eligibility requirements:
1. Individuals who have achieved
outstanding recognition such as receiving one of these prizes: Order of
Culture, Person of Cultural Merit, Japan Academy Prize, Japan Prize,
Medal with Purple Ribbon, Kyoto Prize, and/or international prizes
equivalent to the above.
2. Individuals who achieved some other type of outstanding achievement equivalent to the above.
