Announcement regarding Hacking of School of Science website

Around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, an OU staff member accessing portions of the website of the [ undergraduate and graduate ] School of Science was startled to see that his anti-virus software had detected a virus. The conclusion of this discovery was that on or before June 12, the server at the School of Science had been hacked. Following this discovery, the server was taken off the network* and an analysis of the intrusion was begun.

It is possible that persons who viewed the infected portions of that website during that time may have had malware unintentionally installed on their computer. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Currently we are examining this unauthorized access. We will let you know further details regarding this breach of security as the details become clearer. Please note that the above-mentioned website contained no personal information so there is no threat to the leak of personal data.

You are reminded to make sure your antivirus software is kept up-to-date.
