9th Homecoming Day Held

On Saturday, May 3, a national holiday, the 9th Homecoming Day was held as part of the Icho Festival on the Toyonaka campus with more than 300 people attending, including graduates, their family members, and faculty and staff. Under the blue skies of May, they were greeted by some cheerleaders at the entrance of the Osaka University Hall.

The homecoming ceremony, hosted by SEKI Junko, graduate of the School of Human Sciences and a Kansai Telecasting Corporation announcer, kicked off with a performance by another cheering-leading group. Following it, greetings were presented by President Toshio HIRANO and KUMAGAI Nobuaki, former OU president and president of the alumni association. President Hirano presented his greeting via a video link as he was unable to attend due to a government-initiated international conference.
Following their greetings, YAMADA Shinya, graduate of the School of Letters and a certified public accountant and tax consultant active in the media, delivered a speech entitled "Osaka University, Laundry Pole Vendors, and Me." He humorously talked about accounting, reminiscing on old days, enhancing the mood in the venue.
His lecture was followed by a party at the restaurant in the library building. The party got off to a great start with a toast by NAMBU Machiko, graduate of the School of Law and a president of Kobe Concerto Cruising Company. Participants enjoyed chatting and renewing friendships while listening the background music played by the student music circle "Swing." The party finished in a friendly atmosphere. After the party, visitors participated in events held by the schools they graduated from and events in the Icho Festival.
Osaka University expresses its sincere appreciation to alumni and friends for their participation in this year's events. Alumni are cordially invited to return once again next year on Homecoming Day with family and friends!
