Institute for Academic Initiatives Symposium held: "Opt Osaka 2014 in Tokyo -- Optical science at Osaka University 100"

On Thursday, March 6, Osaka University's Institute for Academic Initiatives Symposium " Opt Osaka 2014 in Tokyo -- Optical science at Osaka University 100 " was held at the Sankei Plaza, Ote-machi, Tokyo. Some 100 labs and groups from Osaka University involved in photon science-related activities got together to introduce their activities and some 500 people participated.
This symposium opened with greetings from President Toshio HIRANO, (Director of the Institute for Academic Initiatives), YAMANAKA Shin-ichi, (Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), ONISHI Takashi, (President, The Science Council of Japan), and KYUMA Kazuo, (member of the Council for Science and Technology Policy, Cabinet Office).
In the following lectures, under the title of " Collaborative Research in Optical Science ," KODAMA Ryousuke, (Professor, Director, The Photon Pioneers Center at Osaka University), KAWATA Satoshi, (Professor, Director, Photonics Center), and AZECHI Hiroshi, (Professor, Director, Institute of Laser Engineering) delivered lectures.
Following the lectures, a poster session "Osaka University's 100 labs and groups involved in photon science-related activities" was held. Participants eagerly looked at posters from the laboratories and frankly exchanged views while viewing the posters.
