The ETH Zürich Big Band concert

On Thursday, February 13, a concert by the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich ( ETH Zürich ) Big Band , made up of ETH Zürich students and graduates, was held at the Kaitokudo for the 21st Century studio in Osaka University Hall.

2014 is the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland and a variety of events will be held through the year. As part of them, the music goodwill ambassador, ETH Big Band, has been hitting the road on a concert tour in Japan. This event was held under the sponsorship of Embassy of Switzerland in Japan for the purpose of promoting exchange with ETH Zürich.
This concert opened with a greeting from Trustee & Vice President Saburo AIMOTO and a brief presentation by Anders HAGSTRÖM, Director of Global Educational Affairs at ETH Zurich. Following his presentation and a performance by Osaka University Cheerleaders, the ETH Big Band began to play . The band has participated in many jazz festivals in the world including the Montreux Jazz Festival. The band performed 9 songs in an hour that also featured a number with a vocalist and the light music club at Osaka University, Swing.
The successful event finished with closing remarks from Vice President Masao IKEDA. Following the concert, members of the audience attended a social hour at the Student Commons, deepening exchanges while enjoying cheese and Nestlé KitKat presented by the embassy.
Prior to the concert, Osaka University and ETH Zürich talked about cooperative relationships and confirmed that they would sign an academic exchange agreement promoting mutual exchange.
