URA (University Research Administrator) Symposium held: "The University and the role of URAs in an era of great change"

On Wednesday, August 28, Osaka University URA (University Research Administrator) Symposium " The University and the role of URAs in an era of great change " was held at  Icho Hall on the Suita campus.
ANZAI Yuichiro , Director, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, in his keynote speech, talked about the role and goals of URAs based on the current state of research at universities in Japan. Following that, as actual examples of URAs at Osaka University, the URA team at the Administrative Office for Large-Scale Education and Research Projects, the Planning Office at the Immunology Frontier Research Center, and the Research Promotion Room at the Graduate School of Letters explained their current efforts.
Furthermore, as an actual example from an institute outside the university, FURUYA Teruo, Director, Riken, talked about research administration efforts undertaken mainly by office workers at Riken.
In the panel discussions in the second half of the symposium, the topic presenters and the URA team at the Administrative Office for Large-Scale Education and Research Projects discussed the expertise and preparedness expected of URAs as well as role-sharing between URAs, faculty and staff members and their relationships, deepening their understanding about URAs, a position that is not yet well understood in Japan.
