Alumni Reunion held in Tokyo

On Saturday, December 12, an Osaka University Alumni Reunion was held in the Gakushi Hall in Kanda, Tokyo.

Heretofore, a yearly alumni reunion has been a part of Homecoming during the Ichou Festival each year in May, a time when alumni are urged to "come home." However, this time, in response to a strong request for a reunion to be held in the Tokyo area, this special event was scheduled.

This December 2009 reunion was very successful with over 250 in attendance and participation by President Washida, a trustee, deans of schools, and alumni representing several generations.

The first portion of the reunion program began with greetings from President Washida. His greetings were followed by greetings from Former President Kumagai as a representative of the Osaka University Alumni Association. Trustee and Vice President Tsuji and deans followed with updates on the current situation at and status of Osaka University. Following these, alumnus KOBAYASHI Eizo, President and Director of C. Itoh & Co., Ltd., gave a lecture on the world economic situation entitled "Domestic and International Economic Trends and Future Prospects."

After a short break, the second portion of the program, a time for socializing and mixing, began with a toast given by TSURUTA Yasunori, President of the Kanto division of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences' Alumni Association. This portion of the reunion was very productive with alumni within and across generations interacting, exchanging business cards, and reawakening enthusiasm for their alma mater . Into this atmosphere, a performance of Osaka University student songs by the Osaka Male Chorus, former members of the Osaka University Male Chorus, enlivened this very successful reunion in Tokyo all the more.
