Professor AKIRA Shizuo designated as a Person of Cultural Merit

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology announced that AKIRA Shizuo, professor at the Immunology Frontier Research Center has been designated as a Person of Cultural Merit.

This award is given for his excellent results in research and education concerning immunology. His achievements are highly acclaimed for elucidating the natural immune system that a variety of organisms have, for recognizing the importance of natural systems of immunity, and for providing a new viewpoint for conventional research in immunology.
