Support Programs for Osaka University Students studying abroad

If you want to "do something" while you are a student, why not study abroad?

Osaka University supports overseas study by promoting various programs including an overseas program designed to provide credits from universities with exchange agreements with Osaka University. It's urgent that Japan develop professionals able to function on the international scene so that Japan will continue to play an important role in international society. To that end, the importance not only of studying abroad and involving oneself in education and research in another country, but also of experiencing a different culture while enhancing one's proficiency in a foreign language cannot be understated.

Osaka University Aid for Student Exchange Programs 

Applications for the 2018-2019 year's program are now being accepted. 

This International Exchange Program is for full-time students of schools and graduate schools of Osaka University. Students in this program are given the chance to study and conduct research at overseas universities with student exchange agreements with Osaka University for one semester or longer--up to a maximum of one year. These exchange agreement specify that students enrolled in their home university are not charged tuition fees at the overseas university; they receive the status of a student at that university and the credits earned are transferable to their home university (in this case, Osaka University).

The student exchange agreements are of two types: university-to-university and school-to-school. The recruitment of students wishing to join such student exchange programs is conducted according to the following guidelines. For school-to-school exchange programs, please contact the school of your choice.

Short-term language study programs

University of Essex Summer Language Study Program  

  • International exchange subject: Experiencing the Cultural Environment of the UK

Applications for the 2018-2019 academic year's program are now being accepted. 
 

This is an English Study Program in which students study at University of Essex, UK for five weeks, from the end of August to the end of September. This is an ideal program for those wishing to learn academic English and take the English ability test IELTS in the UK.

Moreover, participants who successfully complete the basic course "Experiencing the Cultural Environment of the UK" as outlined in the syllabus can receive academic credit based on the grade they receive.

Monash University Spring Language Study Program

  • International exchange subject: Experiencing the Cultural Environment of Australia

Applications for the 2017-2018 academic year are no longer being accepted! We will begin accepting applications for the 2018-2019 year's program in early October.

This is an English Study Program in which students study at Monash University, Australia, for 4 weeks, from February to March. This is a program for those wishing to learn academic English, a great way for preparing for subsequent long-term study abroad.

Moreover, participants who successfully complete the basic course "Experiencing the Cultural Environment of Australia" as outlined in the syllabus can receive academic credit based on the grade they receive.

Otago University Summer Language Study Program

  • International exchange subject: Experiencing the Cultural Environment of New Zealand

Applications for the summer program in the 2018-2019 academic year are now being accepted!

This is an English Study Program in which students study at Otago University, New Zealand, for 4 weeks, from the end of August to the end of September. This is an ideal program for those wishing to acquire comprehensive English skills.

Moreover, participants who successfully complete the basic course "Experiencing the Cultural Environment of New Zealand" as outlined in the syllabus can receive academic credit based on the grade they receive.

Campus France Spring Language Study Program

Applications for the summer program in the 2018-2019 academic year are now being accepted!

This is a short-term language study program held at partner universities of Campus France.

The 2018-2019 Language Study Program will be held at one of the following 2 universities.

1) Linguistics and Civilizations International Center, le CILEC Saint-Etienne
2) French Language Education Center, le CUEF de Grenoble

The period of study for this program will be from Monday, August 13 ~ Friday, September 7, 2018.

In order to expand and strengthen the French language ability of the students enrolled in the program, the curriculum is designed to meet the needs, goals, and interests of the students through strengthening the ability to express and understand in the language as well as use grammar and vocabulary to respond to various situations. In order for students to be able to learn about the history and culture of France, various advertisements, articles from the media, videos, and literary works will be used in class, creating a classroom environment focused on communication through various means of language application.

UN Youth Volunteers Program

*Applications for the 2018-19 Academic Year are now being accepted.

The UN Youth Volunteers Program is a program which dispatches undergraduate student volunteers to developing nations in a collaboration between the UN Volunteers Project and a consortium of 9 Japanese universities*. The length of service is about 5 months, and students take part in activities according to their work instructions in a number of areas such as information and communication technology (ICT), education, the environment, and health and safety with the UN, government agencies, NGO staff, and local individuals.

In 2017-18, two students from Osaka University were dispatched to Indonesia and Fiji in this program.

*Kwansei Gakuin University, Meiji Gakuin University, Sophia University, Meiji University, Toyo University, Rikkyo University, Osaka University, University of Tsukuba, and Akita International University
