[Vietnam] Institute for Nanoscience Design holds 2021 ASEAN Joint Workshop
Osaka University’s Institute for Nanoscience Design, together with Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology’s Institute for Materials Science (IMS) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (USM), held the 2021 ASEAN Joint Workshop online on March 23 and 24, 2021. This workshop was held with the aim of finding matches between human resource development schemes and research themes in order to achieve their goals through International Joint Laboratories. Osaka University’s Graduate School of Engineering Science took this opportunity to hold lectures by 18 lecturers and virtual tours for the purpose of celebrating its 20 th anniversary of exchange with IMS, with a total of 110 individuals taking part in the workshop.
[Brunei] 2021-22 ASEAN Virtual Career Advancement Program held
Osaka University and Universiti Brunei Darussalam jointly held the ASEAN Virtual Career Advancement Program on May 29, June 5, and June 13. Nine undergraduate and graduate students participated in this program, taking lessons on improving their presentation skills in English. Although this summer’s on-site training in Brunei was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the university plans to hold a semiannual English program which combines online and on-site training in Brunei.
[Indonesia] Asia Computational Materials Design (CMD ®) Workshop 2021 held
The Graduate School of Engineering held the Asia Computational Materials Design (CMD ®) Workshop 2021 together with Bandung Institute of Technology (Indonesia) and other institutes from July 26 ~ 28, 2021. The workshop was held to help students to acquire the basic ability to respond to new paradigms in materials science by learning the latest computation methods and experiencing material designs while looking at the possibilities of computation materials design. A total of 55 participants designed materials using a parallel computing server.
[Indonesia] ASEAN network symposium on pharmaceutical sciences~ Osaka University
On July 29, the ASEAN Network Symposum on Pharmaeutical Sciences was held as a part of activity to commemorate Osaka University's 90th and Osaka University of Foreign Studies' 100th Anniversary. The symposium was held in a hybrid format both in-person at SAWAI Hall of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and online, with 336 individuals participating from Indonesia, Japan, and other countries in Asia. Introductions to international collaboration and cutting-edge research at Indonesia's Bandung Institute of Technology, where one of OU's ASEAN Campuses is located, as well as University of Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga, Gadjah Mada University, and Osaka University, after which researchers and students actively exchanged opinions on the topics discussed. We will continue to carry out this type of international exchange in the future.
[Thailand] Specially Appointed Associate Professor Fujihira visits Mahidol University
Specially Appointed Associate Professor (Lecturer) FUJIHIRA Manami of the Center for Japanese Language and Culture (CJLC) visited Mahidol University in Thailand from August 13 ~ September 17, 2021. On September 1, 4, and 15, she held an exchange session with five OU students from the Thai language department who were studying at the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Mahidol University and one Mahidol University student who will study at OU in the CJLC’s Maple Program. At the request of the Faculty of Liberal Arts of Mahidol University, on September 8, she delivered a special online lecture in English entitled “Japan Time: The Environment in the Modern Japanese Society,” which saw 52 participants from Mahidol University. She also talked with faculty and staff at Mahidol University to promote exchange between the two universities.
[Brunei] 2020-21 Graduation Ceremony and 2021-22 Entrance Ceremony for the Osaka University International Certificate Programme: Halal Science, Technology and Innovation (OUICP-HaSTI) held
On Thursday, September 30, 2021, the 2020-21 Graduation Ceremony and 2021-22 Entrance Ceremony for the Osaka University International Certificate Programme: Halal Science, Technology and Innovation (OUICP-HaSTI) was held. A total of 116 individuals, including program participants and program-related individuals, participated in the ceremonies in the presence of Brunei’s Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) Dr. Haji Azman, vice presidents from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), and OU Executive Vice President KAWAHARA Genta. OUICP is made up of 5 programs, with a total of 66 students entering the first class in 2020-21 and 47 students entering the second class of 2021-22. 31 students received their certification of completion at the graduation ceremony for OUICP-HaSTI, one of the programs in OUICP, while the entrance ceremony was held to welcome 31 new students to the 2021-22 program. Moving forward, the university will promote further exchange between students through this program.
