Self Inspection, Certified Evaluation and Accreditation

Self Inspection and Evaluation

The School Education Act provides that universities must perform self inspection and evaluation regarding their education, research, organization, management as well as facilities and their conditions and publicize the results. (School Education Act Article 109)

Certified Evaluation and Accreditation

Certified Evaluation and Accreditation was introduced in 2004 and consists of two evaluations:

Institutional Certified Evaluation and Accreditation and Certified Evaluation and Accreditation for Professional Graduate Schools (Certified Evaluation and Accreditation for Law School). All universities are obliged to be assessed by institutions certified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) once every 7 years (5 years for professional graduate schools) in order to assure and enhance the quality of education and research standards. (in accord with School Education Law Articles 109 and 123)
