Grant-in-Aid Programs

The Project for Establishing Core Universities for Internationalization

In order to promote a July 2008 plan for increasing international student enrollment in Japan to 300,000, the "Global 30" program was inaugurated in 2009 with Osaka University and 12 other universities selected as "Global 30" institutions.

Under the "Global 30"program, the following undergraduate degree programs conducted in English were set up at Osaka University: "Chemistry-Biology Combined Major Program," "Human Science All-English Undergraduate Degree Program," "International Physics Course," and the graduate degree course "Special Integrated Science Course."

In order to promote internationalization through networking with other universities and facilitated collaboration with industry, the project was reorganized, promoting networking for university internationalization in 2011. Thus, in July 2011, Osaka University formed the Osaka-Kobe University Network for Internationalization with Kansai University, Kwansei Gakuin University, and Kobe University.

Re-Inventing Japan Project: CAMPUS Asia (Collective Action for Mobility Program of University Students in Asia)
In 2011, Osaka University, Hiroshima University, Meio University, and Nagasaki University jointly applied and were accepted for a new project. In this project, these four universities and universities in ASEAN formed a university alliance with strategic collaboration with Universities for Peace. Based on 4 principles of peace-building, economic cooperation, health promotion, and multi-cultural understanding, the alliance aimed to create excellent programs for nurturing excellence in next-generation policy-makers through student exchange programs.

Cancer Professional Training Plan

Program for Promoting Inter-University Collaborative Education

Building networks for practical education for developing information technology personnel

This program aims to implement and spread practical education such as problem-solving learning based on actual cases via nationwide networks by universities and industries in order to develop personnel to solve social problems using their information technology.

Formation of Human Resource Development Center for Future Medical Treatment

This project aims to support universities addressing new unique projects regarding the following themes in order to contribute to solving medical challenges associated with rapid aging and actively promote the development of medicine and medical treatment in Japan and abroad.

Theme A: Cultivation of Personnel Promoting Medical Innovation

This program aims to cultivate personnel who are capable of leading research and development of  the world advanced medical treatment and disseminating research results in the world (promoting innovation) in order to make a great contribution to the improvement of world medical standards and the revitalization of Japanese medical industry.

Theme B: Cultivation of General Physicians with a Research Mind

This program aims to cultivate the research aptitude of general physicians who will be capable of dealing with regional comprehensive care systems in the future super-aged society in cooperation with local medical institutes and municipal governments in order to create an environment where people can receive medical services for many years without anxiety.

With the aim of developing human resources who can excel in a global environment, the Global Science Campus project was established to develop and implement an advanced and systematic education program in math and science which recruits and screens local senior high school students with both outstanding ability and motivation. This program, which also includes international activity, is implemented through the cooperation of prefectural or government-ordinance city boards of education to form a consortium which acts as a center to develop the abilities of local students as a community.
