A Door to Academia ("Machikanezemi" or Machikane Seminars)

A Door to Academia, the compulsory courses that students take at the beginning of their first year at OU, give them chances to gain awareness of different ways of seeing things and problem solving clues through encounters with students from different academic fields in classes, serving as the starting point for liberal arts education for students.

In these courses, students will:

(1) Increase their awareness of learning through stimulation via direct discussions with researchers

(2) Broaden their view of specialized fields through exposure to different fields

(3) Raise their motivation to learn more about other fields through close interaction with students from other schools and professors of other fields immediately after entering OU

A Door to Academia are introductory courses in Liberal Arts, Academic Major, and Global Literacy at OU. As the starting point of education for cultivating individuals with a sense of expertise, critical thinking, transcultural communicability, and the design prowess to integrate these abilities, A Door to Academia nurtures students’ ability to find the root of a problem and come up with measures to solve it through academic exploration.
