The School of Letters nurtures capable individuals who can meet the expectations of society, have a keen interest in humans and the society they live in, and carve a path toward the future with theory and sensitivity.
The School of Letters studies a field that is broad and spread across several different specialties. However, these fields share one common principle -- putting emphasis on the intellectual enthusiasm of learners. In other words, the school seeks persons who are not content with merely absorbing knowledge, but value their thinking processes and logical paths. Under these teaching and research policies, the School of Letters is looking for:
- Individuals who are never satisfied with a single answer to a question and continue to look for other answers.
- Individuals who strive to polish their own sensitivity and express their views about human lives in their own words.

The School of Human Sciences aims to nurture persons who are able to view humans and society from a scientific viewpoint and see and understand humans in such a way as to contribute to a more "human" society. The school desires individuals possessing these qualities.
- As you can understand from the name "human sciences," first and foremost a strong interest in humans and scientific viewpoints is needed. In order to sympathize with other persons' feelings --suffering, pleasure, anger, love-- and their experiences, and, at the same time, analyze cause and effect in human problems and come up with solutions, it is necessary to handle phenomena objectively and scientifically.
- Humans are very diverse and complicated. In order to achieve a viewpoint from which one can see the whole picture, one must be well educated. The foundation of culture becomes academic ability. When in high school student, candidates are advised to acquire a wide range of academic capabilities without being bound by liberal arts subjects or science subjects. Only through such a foundation can the integration of liberal arts and science be realized in a real sense after enrolling in university. Therefore, the second desired quality for this school is to have a well-balanced general education and expertise.
- The environment where humans find themselves is changing from moment to moment and the role of humans varies in accordance with changes in environment, society, and times. So the third desired quality for the school is the intellectual interest and vitality to challenge new things flexibly and bravely.
School of Foreign Studies

In such a setting, there is an increasing need to examine the theory of our economy and management systems that greatly affect our lives, from theoretical, empirical, and historical viewpoints. In order to understand complex changes in economy and management, diverse knowledge and varied approaches are needed. Therefore, the School of Economics welcomes the following students.

The roots of the School of Medicine reach back to Tekijuku founded by OGATA Koan and the school has adopted the Tekijuku tradition and developed it for the past 130 years. In order to realize Osaka University’s motto "Live Locally, Grow Globally," the school contributes to local medical care and promotes world-leading medical research. The school was transferred from Nakanoshima, Osaka, original "home base" of the school, to a new building on the Suita Campus in 1993. In order to accomplish the purpose of this field of study, nurses and medical engineers are sought who will focus on treatment of diseases, contribute to diseases prevention, support recuperation, and promote health maintenance and the improvement of normal human life.
The Division of Health Sciences consists of 3 courses: Nursing, Medical Physics and Engineering, and Laboratory Sciences, and welcomes individuals who are eager to approach health sciences as a practical scholarship as well as those who wish to pursue theoretical health sciences. In addition, it must be remembered that health is not an issue just for one nation; a global viewpoint is needed.
