国際交流助成

【応募資格】：下記の諸条件をいずれも満たす日本に国籍を有する者、又は日本への永住が許可されている者

• 1. 1989年４月１日以降出生の者、但し医学部等６年制学部卒業者は1987年４月１日以降出生の者
•     ※出産等ライフイベントにおける年齢上限の緩和あり（詳細は別紙参照）
• 2. 博士号を有するか、またはそれと同等以上の研究業績を有する者
• 3. 当財団の助成期間中の年収※が１,０００万円以下の者
•     ※給与に奨学金や助成金が補填されている場合はそれらを含まない。
• 4. 2027年１月１日から１２月３１日の間に出立し、１年以上の海外留学を受け入れる大学等学術研究機関が決定している者
•   または、2026年内に出立する者および既に留学中の者で2027年１月以降、１年以上留学が決定している者
•  （既に留学中の者については、募集開始時点で海外留学が２年未満であることおよび応募事由書を提出することを条件とする）。

【応募対象外】

1. 過去に当財団の海外留学助成に採択され、助成金を受領した者

2. 学生として海外の大学又は大学院へ留学する者

3. 通算２年以上研究留学の経験がある者

4. 民間企業に所属する研究者

※日本学術振興会や国内外を問わず、他機関・他財団の大型助成（４００万円超）との重複受領は認めない。

【助成金額および件数】

支度金および滞在費１年分として、１件１,０００万円以内とする。※下記表を参照

総助成件数は海外留学助成金Ⅱと合わせて約３５件の予定。

<１件あたりの助成金額の上限>

【助成期間】

留学開始日より１年間。但し、既に留学中の者および年内出立の者は２０２７年１月～１２月の 希望日から１年間とする。

【推薦者】

(１)大学関係

①総合および複合大学：大学院研究科長（または学部長）

（注１)同一の研究科、学部の場合はいずれか１件の推薦とする。

（注２)大学附属病院に所属の場合、原則医学研究科長（医学部長）の推薦とする。

②単科大学：学長

③財団が承認した大学附置研究所等：代表責任者

④大学共通組織 （研究センター、研究施設等）：学長

ただし、医学研究科および薬学研究科の【生命科学部門】においては次の通りとする。

●医学研究科（医学部）に在籍している場合 【生命科学部門】において、１推薦者につき、基礎医学部門所属の研究者１件、

 臨床医学部門所属の研究者（大学・学部附属病院を含む）１件の計２件とする。

 （注）基礎部門のみ又は臨床部門のみ２件となる申請は認めない。

●薬学研究科（薬学部）に在籍している場合 【生命科学部門】において、１推薦者につき、研究テーマが健康科学系・生物系

※１の研究者１件、化学系

※２の研究者１件の計２件とする。

(２)大学以外の研究機関：当財団が承認した研究機関の代表責任者

(３)申請時すでに留学中の者：留学先研究室の長（PI相当）

The Uehara Memorial Foundation

The Uehara Memorial Foundation provides grants for research abroad lasting one year or more in the following categories related to life science, with a particular focus on promoting health and preventing and treating diseases.

Please select one category from the list below:

【Division: Life Science】

Category (A): Eastern Medicine, Physical Fitness Medicine, Social Medicine, Nutrition, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Category (B): Basic Medicine (excluding those in Category A).

Category (C): Clinical Medicine (excluding those in Category A).

【Division: Integration of Life Science with Other Disciplines】

Category (D): Interdisciplinary research that integrates life science with fields such as information science, mechanics, and material science, aimed at creating new technologies for health and medical care. This category targets research projects with the potential to dramatically transform existing academic frameworks and achieve breakthrough development.

Overseas Research Grant I

Applicants must be Japanese nationals or hold permanent residence in Japan and meet all the following criteria.

Eligibility

ⅰ. Applicants must have been born on or after April 1, 1989. However, graduates of six‑year undergraduate programs, such as medicine, may have been born on or after April 1, 1987.

     Taking into account significant life events such as childbirth, the age limit may be extended.

ⅱ. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent

ⅲ. Applicants' annual income during the Foundation’s founding period must not exceed JPY 10 million. Scholarships or grants that supplement an applicant’s salary shall not be included in this calculation.

ⅳ. Applicants must be able to depart for their research abroad between January 1, 2027, and December 31, 2027, and have been accepted by an academic research institution outside Japan for a study period of one year or more.
     *Alternatively, applicants departing in 2026 or those already abroad are eligible, provided that their research outside Japan is confirmed to continue for at least one year from January 2027.
   (*Applicants already studying outside Japan are eligible only if, as of the start of the application period, they have been studying outside Japan for less than two years and submit a statement explaining their reasons for applying.)

Non-eligibility

ⅰ. Those who have previously received this grant

ⅱ. Those who intend to enroll in a university or graduate school outside of Japan as students

ⅲ. Those who have a total of two years or more of research experience outside Japan

ⅳ.  Researchers affiliated with for‑profit organizations

*This grant does not allow concurrent funding with large-scale grants (exceeding JPY 4 million) offered by JSPS or by any other institutions or foundations, whether in or out of Japan.

Grant Amount

The Uehara Memorial Foundation allocates up to JPY 10 million per year to cover relocation costs and one year of living expenses.

Number of Grants: Approximately 35 in total, including Overseas Research Grant II

Grant Period

One year from the applicant’s start date of study outside Japan. For applicants who are already outside of Japan or scheduled to depart Japan within the year,

the grant period shall be one year from their preferred start date. The preferred start date can be any date between January 1 and December 31, 2027.

Letters of Recommendation　Recommenders should be as follows

1. Universities

(1) Comprehensive and multidisciplinary universities:
Dean of the graduate or faculty with which the applicant is affiliated.

*Only one applicant may be nominated from the same graduate school or faculty.

*If the applicant is affiliated with a university hospital, the nomination must, in principle, be submitted by the dean of the graduate school of medicine or the faculty of medicine.

(2) Single-faculty universities:
President

(3) University-affiliated research institutes and similar organizations approved by the foundation:
Representative Director

(4) University-wide organizations, such as research centers and research institutes:

However, in the Life Sciences category, the following rules apply to applicants affiliated with the Graduate School of Medicine or Pharmaceutical Sciences.

(a)  Applicants affiliated with the Graduate School of Medicine or Faculty of Medicine:

Each nominator may nominate up to two applicants in total. One applicant affiliated with the basic medicine division and one applicant affiliated with the clinical medicine division, including university hospitals and faculty-affiliated hospitals.

*Nominations for two applicants from basic medicine divisions or from clinical medicine divisions only are not permitted.

(b) Applicants affiliated with the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences or Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences:

Each nominator may nominate up to two applicants in total: one applicant in the health sciences or biology field, and one applicant in the chemistry field.

*Nominations for two applicants in the same field are not permitted.

2. Research institutions other than universities approved by the foundation: Representative Director

3. Applicants already studying outside of Japan at the time of application: Head of the host laboratory, equivalent to a PI.

*Only one applicant may be nominated per laboratory.
