Regarding disciplinary action taken against a dental staff member

Facts regarding the violation

The offender committed sexual harassment against a female graduate student, namely unwelcome touching of the student’s body at drinking parties with laboratory members and while on trips with other medical staff.

After investigating the facts of this case, the Task Force on Sexual Harassment at Osaka University recognized the offender’s actions as sexual harassment against the victim.

The university deems that the offender’s inappropriate behavior undermines the university’s dignity and respect, and has taken disciplinary action against him, suspension for 1 month, pursuant to Article 31, Section 2, Item 3 of Work Regulations (for Temporary Part-time Education and Research Staff) at National University Corporation Osaka University.

*The university will not release the details of the offender’s behavior and identifiable information regarding the victim to protect the victim.

Sexual harassment by a staff member towards a graduate student is inappropriate behavior and is completely unacceptable in a medical setting. The university has severely punished the offender.

Osaka University offers its deepest apologies to the victim of sexual harassment at the university. We will continue to make efforts to raise awareness of harassment prevention and take measures to ensure a harassment-free environment.
