The Judicial Procedures and Tendencies in Court’s Decisions on Parent’s Custody Rights in Hague Convention Cases in the USA

2018-2-8 (Thu) 18:00 - 20:30

Seminar on practical issues and procedures for the Hague Convention in the U.S.

The Hague Convention (Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction) took effect in Japan on April 1, 2014. Since then, of the total applications for assistance to the Central Authority of Japan, cases with the United States have accounted for some 30%, which is a big part of the cases that the authority handles. Our speaker for this seminar is Mr. Stephen J. Cullen, a lawyer who served as an attorney for left-behind parents in the United States in several parental child abduction cases to Japan.

In this lecture, Mr. Cullen, who is well-informed on the legal proceedings and legal system related to the Hague Convention in the U.S., will speak about the judicial proceedings for these cases and tendencies in court decisions on parent’s custody rights in cases pertaining to the Hague Convention in the U.S., as well as what one should keep in mind when a case is brought into court in the U.S.

This is a valuable opportunity to deepen your understanding of the Hague Convention, so those interested are encouraged to attend.
