OSIPP Inamori Foundation Endowed Chair Special Lecture - Social Innovation Seminar Series #3: "BEYOND REASON - Necessary Points of View for Solving Social Issues"

2017-1-28 (Sat) 13:00 - 15:00

The 4th Koshien Tanzania National Baseball Championship was held in December of 2016. The players at this tournament dreamed of playing well at Tanzania's Koshien tournament for a chance to enter the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games. "But there must be something more important than baseball." This was a conflict that TOMONARI Shinya (currently Deputy Director, JICA Hokkaido International Center) dealt with multiple times in his time as a JICA employee in Ghana and Tanzania while also serving as the manager for the national baseball team for both countries. It's the importance of providing basic human needs as support to developing nations. However, when listening to Mr. Tomonari's problem, the youth of Africa replied, "We want to play baseball. Baseball is our lives. We want you to let us play baseball." What are points of view that need to be considered for solving social issues and creating social innovation in addition to providing basic human needs? We've invited Mr. Tomonari to talk about his experiences in Africa as well as exchange opinions and deepen discussion with attendees. Both students and members of the general public with an interest in this subject are welcome to attend.
